West University Place:  (Approx. 5600 homes)
"West U" not only feels like a small town - it is one! In 1925, the city was incorporated and is still governed by a mayor and city council, with police, fire and ambulance departments and its own water, sewer and recycling plants. The city earned its name due to its location west of Rice University. West U's architecture blends new and older homes and reflects the diversity of its citizens. West U. amenities include a year-round swimming pool, numerous parks and tennis courts, community and sports centers, a neighborhood library, shops and churches. It is a family-oriented community with well-attended activities such as the annual Park Lovers Ball, West U. Home Tour, school auction, carnivals, and Little League games. It's all part of the small town atmosphere that West U. citizens cherish.

Southside Place:  (Approx. 500 homes)
Southside Place is also a separate incorporated city developed in the 1920's and 30's. Beside garden and civic clubs, Southside has a park complete with pool, tennis courts and clubhouse, plus a police force and fire department. Although smaller than the West U. neighborhood which surrounds it, Southside Place is an equally popular "hometown", also a mixture of old and new homes with a friendly family atmosphere.
