Houston Chronicle Quotes

Excerpts from article entitled "Elaine Allen Promotes Neighborhood"

Elaine Allen offers this pledge to her prospective home buyers: "I strive to be a knowledgeable real estate specialist in Inner Loop neighborhoods - it's impossible for a realtor to be an expert in all of Houston's residential neighborhoods."Allen specializes in neighborhoods where prices can range from $150,000 to well over a million: West University Place, Southside Place, Braeswood, Braeswood Place, Bellaire, Southampton and the Museum District.

"It's an eclectic area," said Allen, "with an interesting mixture of old and new homes. The most popular architecture is the traditional look which blends with the established feeling of our neighborhoods, enhanced by the large trees which create a canopy over the streets."

Most of these neighborhoods were developed from the 1920's through the 1950's. "I certainly sell older homes, ready for renovation. I also sell homes that have been extensively, creatively remodeled by the homeowners. And the most recent phenomenon has been the new construction boom."

The smaller, less updated homes are being torn down to make way for spacious and often expensive new homes. West University and Southside Place started this trend which extends to Bellaire and Braes Heights. The West University, Bellaire and Rice/Medical areas are just minutes away from downtown, Greenway Plaza and the Galleria. Also nearby are the Reliant Center, the Medical Center, the museums, and neighborhood shopping areas in Bellaire and Rice Village.

"It's a wonderful place to live," Allen said. "The sense of neighborhood pride and commitment makes the area feel like a small town in the heart of a big city. There's a genuine hometown feeling here. My clients range from older people who helped establish the traditions of our neighborhood five decades ago, to the newcomers to the area, young professionals often with a growing family, who will continue these traditions and establish new trends."

Allen has supported the community by sponsoring Little League baseball teams and girls' softball teams and by contributing to many local school and community events. She has also donated oak trees for neighborhood beautification."As the neighborhood real estate specialist, I stay up-to-date about the schools and local events, the current real estate market and the benefits of living in this wonderful community."
