Before you select a specific property:
- Have available funds in your accounts to pay for your inspections, downpayment and closing costs, including the first year's insurance
premiums.
- Go to the local credit bureau and pay the applicable fee to receive
a copy of your credit report. If you find a reporting error which would negatively
affect your credit rating, have the error corrected prior to the loan
application.
- Make an appointment with a mortgage lender to determine your maximum
loan amount. Your loan pre-qualification will make your contract more
acceptible to a seller and will help the loan approval process go
quickly and smoothly.
- Make a prioritized list of features which you would like in your
new home.
Start with the basics: required number of bedrooms, baths, house and
lot size, architectural style, and any special requirements such as
a study, quarters or pool.
- Select a professional Realtor to assist you with your property search.
